VENUE: COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 326 SOUTH SEGOE RD, MADISON, WI
TIME: TUES.-FRI. 9AM-4PM WITH EVENING ACTIVITIES 7PM – 8:30PM

Players of the violin, viola, cello, mandolin, guitar, bass and percussion learn tunes and techniques from a variety of traditions such as Bluegrass, Scottish, Jazz, Appalachian, Irish, and Blues. Students learn in groups with others of a similar experience level. The instructors teach by ear with download-able sheet music for those who would like it. We take breaks for snacks and outdoor play or organized sports. In the evenings we host a traditional Barn Dance and awe-inspiring staff concert. The camp wraps up with a all-camp student recital Friday afternoon.

GENERAL ABILITY LEVEL AND AGE REQUIREMENTS

AGE REQUIREMENTS & ABILITY LEVEL

Students need to be at least nine years old, however we do make some exceptions for younger students who have a lot of experience and maturity. Please contact us if you think your child might qualify. As much as we’d like to, Fiddle Pal Camp can’t accommodate absolute beginners at an instrument. Read below for minimum ability requirements.

MANDOLIN, GUITAR AND BASS

Students must have a minimum of one year study on the instrument and should be able to play some tunes and some chords well. Guitar and mandolin players will need a flat pick, a strap, and a capo (guitar).

VIOLIN, VIOLA AND CELLO

Students are grouped by ability into beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. At minimum, students must be able to play tunes from the middle of American Fiddle Method Volume 1 or Suzuki Book 1.

Viola and cello students will be grouped in the fiddle classes with violins. They should be comfortable with extensions and transposing and should be at a minimum playing at the end of American Fiddle Method Volume 1 for Cello or Viola, or Suzuki Book 3.
